Yes, our beloved rusty 1991 Accord has blown up something in the transmission. I am hopeful that it's just a leak that can easily be fixed (I know the immediate problem is lack of transmission fluid, most of which is now decorating the floor of the Table Mesa park/ride).
In any case, if you're a Honda Mechanic, or have a friend who is, and like bikes - drop me a line and let's do some trading! I'll build you a bike or at the least hook you up with some parts (depending on how dire the situation is with the tranny... um, I mean car). And yes, if you figure out that it's $3k to repair my $1k car - I will of course still compensate you for your time, even if the car ends up on the scrap heap.
Edit: obviously, I should have entitled this "Dire situation with a tranny" or something. But I am not that creative.

It's time to buy a brand new, cheapest Honda and study about the car..
It can be used for 30 years as you can weld and swap parts.
If you had cared about the accord like your bike, it's wouldn't have broken that way.
Er, ok. That's a pretty awesomely useless piece of advice, given that I'm not interested in spending the next couple of years becoming a car mechanic. I like using this cool system where I do what I'm good at, in exchange for goods and services other people are good at...
www.car-part.com for a decent 'used' transmission in the event it's blown up. I've never found anyone who can accurately rebuild an import transmission. You didn't mention manual or automagic. Either way, a good used one is likely the way to go. If I were smarter and lived in CO, I'd hook you up. But instead, you'll have to be satisfied in knowing that my brains are boiling in N. Texas.
Wait wait wait... Walt cares for his personal bikes????? I see him more as the cliched cobbler.
That said... YOU SHOULD HAVE TAKEN MY SUBY!!!
Sorry about that, I'll call you when we catch our breath.
Yes, I should have taken the Suby. Doh!
Dear Walt. This is not a $3G repair. A used auto tranny from your local junk yard should be around $300 and shipped around $500, some extra parts are handy so factor say an extra $120. A competent shady tree mechanic can swap one out in an afternoon with access to ramps and an air compressor. I swapped out a nissan v6 in a pathfinder in 2 days in front of my condo in winter with hand tools. This is a lot easier, ive done it on a tacoma. If I lived closer (im in eagle) Id do it for beer (very good beer btw) and to meet the legend. I think someone is trying to sell you a new car.
We have a 91 accord it has been a great car. But in the last year it's like everything is falling apart. I wish we would have given up on it a year ago when we spent 400 on the new distributor. At that point it seemed worth it but now I see that we should have cut and run. The latest thing is the brake lights wont go off. It's not the switch by the pedal it's not the fuse. I need to do some more research but there's no way we are spending anymore money on it. Also feels like the Automagic might be starting to go. If you haven't already cut your losses and buy another slightly newer cheep car.
