...that he is the first person to ride a 36er at Ragbrai. Anyone know of another? There have been a lot of weird bikes ridden across Iowa over the years, after all.

Maybe the first in mtb format, but even then only maybe. I've seen a few people on the original coker cruisers several years and then there were the three kids on 36er unicycles...
