More 36er stuff

Had an interesting experience riding Betasso today - we got to watch as a HUGE forest fire blew up in the mountains west of Boulder (not far from where we were riding - in fact we had to cut the ride short because of the smoke). Best of luck to all the folks who had to evacuate - it's really pretty apocalyptic out there right now. I have to imagine that dozens, if not hundreds of homes have burned. You can read more about it, if you care to, at the Daily Camera.

Anyway, more progress on the bizarro 36er project. Toptubes are in, seat tube/toptube brace is ready to go, now I just need to do some more bracing and other minor stuff, plus a direct mount front derailleur mount, and she'll be good to go to the powdercoater.

is this the new 36er frame? a lot different from the other one you built. getting better at it, or different specs altogether? looks cool by the way.

Hey Mike -

This isn't how I'd choose to do it, in a number of ways, but the curved seat tube/73mm BB shell/double toptubes were special requests that I went along with. It will end up being quite pricey due to all the extra time/effort invested, but hopefully it'll make the owner happy!

Is the brace a block or a box?

Eric -

It's a piece of 3/4"x1.5" rectangular 4130 tubing. Not a solid block!

Dual top tubes are a PAIN!

Ha, that frame looks ridiculous without the rest of it's bits. Hope to see a built up shot, looks great!

Hey, is that a 36'er mixte? Badass.

Nice to you branching out in the hipster world, especially now that you've finally embraced your love of publicly mounting wheels.

What do you use for fork legs for such a beast? 1.125x0.049?

And I assume the HT is for an internal headset to reduce stack height rather than 1.5"? But that would be rad, too
