This sucks...

So, most of you know that I ship everything via DHL. Looks like that is going to be a thing of the past soon, as they're shutting down their US operations in January.

This really sucks, especially for my friend Sharrad, who is my DHL pickup guy. I have to assume he is going to be laid off.

I am *hoping* to minimize the difficulties this causes by transferring my shipments to UPS or Fedex over the next month or so (anyone have an opinion on which is better?) Nevertheless, I expect some problems of one kind or another, so please be patient if shipping takes longer than usual.

I don't know if this will change shipping costs significantly, but I don't think it will.

I work in the tech industry and have had good luck shipping large computer hardware via FedEx.

I just ship Ebay bikes and other small stuff but I've found that FedEx is a little less expensive than UPS. And they're ShipRush software is super easy to use. But I choose not to get pick-ups since the drop off location is on my way to work. Don't know how much of a difference that would make.

I'm bummed about DHL as well. Their prices on large item shipments were by far the best. While I love it when brown santa visits my house with gifts of joy, their shipping prices are high. I hate FedEx....but their ground stuff seems to be fairly affordable.

I've only heard of people having crappy experiences with DHL and shiping bikes (maybe it is different for frames).

It sucks that people are going to lose jobs, but perhaps it is the company's fault for not running a very "tight ship" here in the US if you will.

Hi,

Fedex would be a good choice for you. Now is the perfect time to to switch to FedEx. They have programs specifically for DHL customers. Visit https://www.choose.fedex.com to leran more.

Fedex is cheaper for bikes. The boulder UPS people are bike nazis. At least they were 4 years ago, which was the last time I went there. BTW, I've found if you chop about 6 inches off a bike box, you can ship a full bike Fedex ground for under $20.
